LETS GET SOME BLING

845 MADISON AVENUE

- The Shirt Room, Tom Ford International, NYC
Tom Ford opened his first free-standing retail outlet today. As the head designer of the Gucci lifestyle line for over a decade, Ford found himself on an international stage. Shilling for a faceless entity left him cold, evidently, so he left Gucci and set off on his own.

The design world will be watching with much interest to see if the golden boy falls on his face or if this is just the first of many successes under his own nameplate.

Either way, he'll still be a sexy bitch with millions in the bank and a boytoy on his arm. Few will be sympathetic if he fails.

THINK SPRING

Grant Wood (1891-1942). Spring in the Country, 1941.
Oil on masonite.
If you read this site, you know I tend to lean towards the modern. This print may not fit, but it jumped out at me. The sky goes on forever. I needed a spring sky on this snowy April day. Breathe deep, you can smell the dirt. Folk art is good for rousing the senses.

MINNEAPOLIS DOESN'T SUCK

MSNBC has named our fair town one of the 10- Most Underrated U.S. Cities

"A burst of new buildings from the world's top architects — Herzog & de Meuron's Walker Art Center expansion, Jean Nouvel's new Guthrie Theater, Michael Graves' addition to the Institute of Arts — reinforces the fact that Minneapolis's cultural cachet doesn't entirely depend upon Prince"

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18024681/

Hmm. Not bad. Cool that we're getting some props for the shizz we're building. In related news that I do not agree with whatsoever;

Men's Health names Minneapolis one of the "Top five cities to find a mate."

Sure, the winters are bitter, but that's about the only excuse not to exercise--running and bike paths weave around the 24 lakes and along the Mississippi River, no doubt explaining the high fitness ranking. The city is also home to the University of Minnesota, one of the biggest college campuses in the country, so chances are the guy jogging by you has a reading list that includes more than the Sunday comics.

STATS: 98th out of 101 in ratio of single men to single women, 94th in fitness level, and 93rd in education level.

Where the hell are all these sexy people? I mean, don't get me wrong, I love my Great Plains brothers and sisters, but this article makes it sound as though the walls are dripping with gym bodies. Boo.

THANKS BUT NO THANKS

Disney Opens Fairy Tale Wedding Service to Gay Couples- AP
"Same-sex couples who want to exchange vows in front of Cinderella’s Castle now have the chance.
The Walt Disney Co. had limited its Fairy Tale Wedding program to couples with valid marriage licenses, but it is now making ceremonies at its parks available to gay couples as well.
The company said it made the change after being contacted by a gay couple who wanted to use the wedding service, which offers ceremonies at Disneyland in California, Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disney’s cruise ships."
This, of course, after years of requests and lawsuits. Shame on Disney for relasing a press statement as though they are a progressive entity, taking it upon themselves to do the right thing.

BIG BROTHERS

THEY WANT TO SEE ME AGAIN...

I Just got a call from RSP. They would like me to come in for a second interview. Weeks ago, I got my hopes up then eventually resigned myself to not getting the job. Now I don't know what to think. This process is testing my patience, but I need to figure out how to keep my sh*t together if I want to design stuff like this:

ITS ABOUT TIME...

"Grandma's Marathon Bans Headphones and Music Devices"- AP

Some dumb girl with an ipod stepped on my foot last year. I'm glad they did away with ipods on the course. It's a nuisance.

NANCY PELOSI IN SYRIA

The Speaker of the House was in Damascus this week, much to the chagrin of the White House. I was excited and proud to watch her walk through the city at the defiance of our current administration. It felt like someone in our government was willing to stand up and say, "We are going to run things differently". A huge success, the trip will hopefully give speed to those who are in positions of power and are ready to subvert the prevailing (antiquated) thoughts on international relations.
